Dr. Pete Wegier, Research Chair in Optimizing Care Through Technology at Humber River Hospital, is looking for a talented postdoctoral research fellow in the areas of health economics/costing and cost-effectiveness analysis, applied to digital healthcare technologies.
Humber River Hospital is North America’s first fully digital hospital, housing cutting-edge technology for the delivery of excellent patient care. These innovations include Canada’s first hospital-based command centre, which combines real-time data from across the hospital with AI/ML algorithms to improve patient flow; a closed-loop robotic pharmacy to minimize medication errors; and a real-time surgical patient tracking system which can update loved ones as a patient progress through all stages of surgery. The postdoctoral fellow will develop and lead a line of research examining the health economics/cost-effectiveness of the exciting new technologies and approaches at Humber River Hospital.
Research topics for the fellowship are flexible and could include costs from reduced resource use related to the implementation of these technologies, how these technologies have reduced patient harms and the economics related to those reductions in harms, or other ideas co-developed with the fellowship supervisor.
The fellow will participate in the identification of research funding opportunities and writing of grant applications; lead the writing of manuscripts; present at academic conferences; and engage with graduate students.
Applicants must have a PhD in health economics, health technology assessment, health services research, or a related discipline. Applicants must be able to demonstrate an excellent track record of research experience and publications in the areas of health economics/costing and cost-effectiveness analysis.
