Right now we’re looking for a Registered Nurse to work in our Emergency Psychiatric Service Unit, Mental Health and Addictions Program. 
 
Location:Humber River Health– Wilson Site
Hours of work:
8 and 12 hour day/night rotation. Availability for weekends and statutory holidays required. Subject to change based on units needs.
Hourly Rate Range: $39.07 - $56.00

Responsibilities:

  • Complete comprehensive crisis assessments for referred patients (adults, youth and children) in the ER.
  • Collaborate with the Psychiatrist on Call, the ER Physician and ER staff in the plan of care and disposition of the patient.
  • Provide clinical Mental Health crisis intervention in the Emergency Psychiatric unit.
  • Provide support and direction to the ER staff in the treatment of patients suffering from a physical illness as well as an identified mental illness or emotional crisis.
  • Collaborate with the Mental Health Inpatient and Ambulatory programs and community support services in the transfer and/or follow-up of patients discharged from the EPU.
  • Participate in Mental Health Program planning, in particular crisis service planning and development.
  • Provide care to all patients admitted to the Emergency Psychiatric Unit.  This would include partnering with the team to plan care, implement nursing interventions and evaluate outcomes as well as plan and implement discharge plans in collaboration with internal/external supports and involve family/next of kin in the plan of care as appropriate.
  • Nurses may be reassigned to other mental health units as per the Collective Agreement

Requirements:

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario. 
  • Current BCLS/CPR certification.
  • Venipuncture skills required.
  • Minimum 3 years recent experience in Mental Health/Addictions required. Recent crisis experience required.
  • BScN or degree in health sciences preferred. 
  • Child/adolescent psychiatric experience preferred.
  • Expert knowledge of the Mental Health Act.
  • An awareness and Knowledge/experience in Trauma Informed Care preferred
  • Demonstrated Nursing competence in critical decision making involving patient triage, assessment, treatment and disposition.
  • Outstanding professional interpersonal skills, including the ability to be assertive.
  • Familiarity with community resources and their mechanisms of access.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team in a stressful and fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with community resources and their mechanisms of access.
  • Ability to travel between sites. 
  • Access to a vehicle preferred.
  • Excellent attendance and discipline free record required.
