DATA SCIENTIST

Employment Status: Temporary Full Time
Duration:
August 2026 with the possibly of a contract extension or permanent role in the future - subject to change as per Management Rights

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours/week, Monday – Friday; with some flexibility as required - subject to change as per Management Rights

The Humber River Research Institute is dedicated to health services research, with the aim of transforming the delivery of healthcare in both our hospital and community settings, through the application of digital tools and novel innovations.

 

We are looking for an awesome Data Scientist to join the team and help contribute to an incredible research environment. You’ll apply your expertise in data science, statistics, modelling, etc. to help us transform healthcare in Ontario. You should be someone who loves learning new skills, teaching and helping others, and be passionate about transforming the healthcare system to improve how care is delivered.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Work with the research team and act as an expert resource in quantitative methods.
  • Collaborate with hospital researchers, clinician-scientists, and leadership to develop novel research ideas and turn those ideas into well-designed research projects.
  • Provide technical input to PIs and research staff on analytical considerations related to study design.
  • Perform data cleaning, transformation, and integration from multiple sources (e.g., EMRs, administrative data, survey platforms).
  • Conduct advanced data analyses, including regression modelling, hypothesis testing, clustering, classification, time series analysis, simulation modelling, and operations research modelling.
  • Prepare and present analytical findings to help inform study objectives and decision-making by the research team.
  • Write analysis summaries, tables, and figures to support scientific manuscripts, presentations, ethics applications and internal reports.
  • Create compelling data visualizations (e.g., dashboards, infographics, charts) to support research dissemination and stakeholder engagement.
  • Collaborate with other departments to deploy models and dashboards in near-real time.
  • Develop interactive tools and visual summaries to help communicate key findings to clinical teams, hospital leadership, and external partners.

WHO YOU ARE                              

  • You have a master’s degree in a quantitative discipline (i.e., data science, statistics, quantitative psychology, computer science, etc.)
  • You’re a pro in tools such as Python, R, and Git.
  • You have experience developing machine learning/simulation/optimization models and deploying models for real-time use.
  • You have experience helping others develop research ideas into real projects as well as experience developing your own lines of research.
  • You like helping people learn more about the areas you’re an expert in.
  • You have strong knowledge of research best practices, the Canadian healthcare system, and the healthcare funding landscape.
  • You’re able to communicate your ideas to a range of audiences and integrate the feedback you receive to improve your work.
  • You have a desire to positively change the way healthcare is delivered using the newest digital tools.
