We’re looking for a Recreational Therapist to work in our Adult Inpatient Psychiatric Unit within the Mental Health and Addictions Program!

  

Employment Status: Permanent Full Time

Hours of work: Monday to Friday, some evenings may be required - subject to change as per Article 4 – Management Rights

Employee Group: OPSEU 590 

Reporting Relationship: Manager, Inpatient Mental Health
Hourly Rate Range: $32.99 - $39.75 
Location: Humber River Health, Wilson Site – Cross Site Coverage may be required (must be willing to work on all Mental Health Units within the continuum of Mental Health Services) 

  

Responsibilities:  

  • Developing, designing, implementing and evaluating individualized and group therapeutic recreational/leisure/life skills programs and special events.
  • Supporting and encouraging the development of functional and acceptable social skills for patients in the Mental Health Program.
  • Providing consultation services with Health professionals when requested.
  • Recording patient assessment, progress and discharge status, in accordance with department and hospital policy.
  • Providing supervision and support to a group of volunteers who assist inpatients with various social activities.
  • Developing linkages with community agencies so that patients are aware of recreational supports once discharged

 

Requirements:  

  • Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation & Leisure Studies with Therapeutic Recreation focus or University Degree in Human Sciences with a Post Graduate Diploma in Therapeutic Recreation required.
  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) with the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) required.
  • Ensure professional practices and ethics are followed as governed by professional organization affiliation as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) with the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC)
  • Minimum of 2 years of direct experience in Mental Health working with Inpatients and/or Outpatients required.
  • Knowledge of the network of Community services and agencies serving the mental health patients in the community (Toronto area).
  • Knowledge of psychiatric disorders, treatment practices, legislation governing the care and treatment of Mental Health patients.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required in order to facilitate effective communication with patients, team members, and volunteers.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize a varied workload.
  • Demonstrated initiative and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated cross cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Ability to respond rapidly and decisively to crisis situations.
  • Excellent attendance and discipline free record required.
