We’re looking for an Occupational Therapist in our Outpatient Mental Health and Addictions Program. This position provides support for our Adult Day Treatment Program, our Mood and Anxiety Stepped Care program, as well as our Psychogeriatric Clinic.

  • Within our Adult Outpatient Day Treatment Program, this position works with the interdisciplinary team to provide individual and group based care to individuals with primary symptoms of psychosis.
  • Within our Mood and Anxiety Stepped Care Program, this position works with the Stepped Care interdisciplinary team to deliver trans diagnostic skills based, low barrier groups.
  • Within our Psychogeriatric Clinic, this position provides referral screening, assessment and short term follow up for patients and their families.

Reporting to the Manager of Mental Health & Addictions, the Occupational Therapist (OT) in the Outpatient Mental Health Program is responsible for the assessment, treatment and prevention of disorders which affect function in the areas of self-care, sociality, productivity and leisure. 

Employment Status: Permanent Part Time

Hours of Work: This program operates during regular weekdays (e.g. 08:30 – 16:30), including some evening work may be required - subject to change as per Article HRH 2 – Management Rights

Hourly Rate: $40.36 - $56.30

Reporting Relationship: Manager, Mental Health & Addictions

 


Responsibilities: 

  • Complete  assessment and establish therapeutic relationships with patients to deliver individual and group treatment.
  • Facilitate, maintain and improve cognitive, social and life skills for patients.
  • Responsible for assessment, education and treatment intervention in the areas of occupational performance (self-care, productivity and leisure) as well as other measures as relevant for the program.
  • Deliver assessments and/or coverage in other clinical areas of the Mental Health and Addictions Program as needed.
  • Other duties/roles as assigned


Requirements:

  • Degree or Masters Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
  • Member of the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO).
  • Membership in CAOT or OSOT preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in Mental Health required, with two years experience in working with patients who have serious and persistent mental illness.
  • Experience with psychogeriatric (65 years and older) patients is required
  • Experience in supporting those with mobility needs (e.g. wheelchair fittings, seating) is an asset.
  • Demonstrated understanding of DBT/CBT skills is required
  • Demonstrated competence/experience in completing the MoCA and MMSE is required
  • Certification in the Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behaviour is preferred.
  • Experience with addictions care is an asset; particularly the interplay between substance use, history and mental health symptoms is an asset.
  • Good understanding and familiarity with currently assessments/tools (i.e. to assess function and cognition).
  • An awareness and Knowledge/experience in Trauma Informed Care preferred
  • Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills and ability to convey empathy in interactions with patients.
  • Ability to apply principles of psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery in day to day clinical activities preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess an individual’s mental status and complete a risk assessment.
  • Familiar and comfortable with technology-assisted healthcare delivery, specifically video conferencing using MS teams, OTN, etc
  • ability to use mobile technologies such as smartphones and tablets to connect patients to appointments
  • Excellent attendance and discipline free record required.
