Right now we’re looking for a Registered Nurse - Lactation Consultant to work in our Maternal and Child Program

 

 

Employment Status: Full-time 
Hours of work:
8 or 12 hr  Days or Evening - Monday to Sunday

Employee Group: ONA

Salary Rate Range: $40.24 - $57.68

Location: Humber River Health – Wilson Site

Reporting Relationship: Manager, Mother and Baby Unit

 

Responsibilities:

 

  • Promotion of baby-friendly breastfeeding initiatives.
  • Promotion of and commitment to family centered maternity care philosophy.
  • Plans, teaches and evaluates classes for breastfeeding mothers.
  • Accept consults from inpatient unit staff regarding breastfeeding problems/issues.
  • Accepts referrals from nurses, physicians or patient regarding breastfeeding problems/issues.
  • Assist mothers having breastfeeding problems.
  • Plans, organizes and delivers breastfeeding education in-services to all breastfeeding patients, both inpatient & outpatient, as well as staff.
  • Selects appropriate literature and supplies to support the activities of breastfeeding at HRRH.
  • Liaise with community agencies, Public Health, Community Health Services and Breastfeeding Coalitions.
  • Conducts quality assurance program to assess the effectiveness of breastfeeding education and support at HRH
  • To assist with the antenatal and RSV Clinic and outpatient clinic as needed
  • Act as Mentor to the Nursing staff for any breastfeeding questions and education as needed
  • Support Infant Cue feeding project in NICU and attend the NICU Grand Rounds  
  • Chair or Co chair of Maternal Child Program Breastfeeding committee  


Qualifications:

  • A baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred.
  • Registered member of the College of Nursing, in good standing.
  • IBCLC Certification required (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant).
  • Recent clinical experience in breastfeeding support and teaching in an inpatient and ambulatory setting.
  • Current Perinatal/Birthing Unit experience required.
  • A highly developed customer service orientation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Current BCLS and NRP Certification required.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement evidence/research findings in practice.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in adult education an asset.
  • Certification in Childbirth Education with ICEA or ASPO/Lamaze an asset
  • Excellent attendance and discipline free record required.
  • An understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion principles as they relate to health practices is an asset. Humber River Health values lived and learned experiences in addressing systemic barriers and advancing inclusive practices
