Our Medical Imaging Department uses state of the art equipment, technology and processes to accurately and efficiently image and perform procedures to diagnose, treat and prevent disease. 

The MRI Charge Technologist coordinates the day-to-day activities of the department by exercising technical expertise within the discipline and acts as a resource person within the Medical Imaging Department and Hospital. They will assist in the development of technical standards for MRI and ensure staff competency and training completion.

Hours of Work:  Monday-Friday day shift with availability for rotating shifts, including weekends and commitment of hours as per collective agreement (subject to change)

Location:  Humber River Hospital – Wilson

Position Responsibilities:

• Proficient with all duties and responsibilities of the MRI Senior Technologist (if applicable) and MRI Technologist roles.
• Ensures that MRI exams and procedures are completed within a timely manner
• Prioritizes and allocates daily workload among staff technologists
• Ensures adequate staffing levels are maintained in all areas including reassignment as necessary
• Performs regular MRI duties as required
• Supports staff in order to maintain competency in all aspects of MRI
• Checks and verifies image quality controls (QCs) and takes appropriate corrective action
• In collaboration with the radiologists, evaluates scanning protocols on an ongoing basis to ensure that protocols are accurate and current
• Regularly reviews department policy and procedures utilizing corporate software applications providing the Medical Imaging Managers and/or Supervisors with updated requirements
• Responsible to ensure appropriate supplies and consumables are in stock and available for use.
• Primary liaison between the clerical, technologists, nurses, PACS support team, Medical Imaging management, radiologists, students, and volunteers
• Supportive liaison for inter-professional team members, other hospital programs, physicians, vendors and school programs
• Demonstrates ability to interact with and address patients and family needs and concerns
• Coordinates the implementation and participates in the development of Quality Control (QC)and Quality Assurance (QA) programs
• Reviews and addresses any pending QC issues and enforces high-level quality for each staff member
• Incorporates licensing, accreditation standards and requirements into the operating structure of the modality and department
• Reviews workload statistics regularly to ensure accuracy and balance of operations
• Monitors staff shift start, break, and end-times to ensure optimal operational workflow and efficiency
• Create and maintain the technologist staff schedule in consultation with management in accordance to hospital/provincial employment standards and applicable union collective agreements
• Completes payroll data entry
• Rotates through the Command Centre assignment as Medical Imaging Inpatient Flow technologist as required
• Demonstrates leadership qualities, acts as a role model, and contributes new ideas
• Co-ordinates with other members of the health care team in providing direct and indirect patient care
• Working with the manager to have knowledge of the budget, and financial implications and responsibilities of the MRI modality
• Maintains optimal levels of products and supplies
• Participates in department and professional activities supporting efforts to galvanize and strengthen team morale
• Exercises technical expertise within the discipline and acts as a resource person within Medical Imaging and Hospital
• Participate in interdepartmental and corporate teams as required
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Graduate of a recognized Medical Radiation Technology program and required member of good standing with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario
• Member in good standing with the Ontario Association of Medical Radiation Sciences preferred
• Minimum 5 years MRI experience required
• Minimum 2 years MRI leadership experience
• Leadership/mentorship education preferred
• Proficient in all MRI imaging, exams and procedures
• Demonstrated ability to develop and support orientation, teaching and in-servicing programs of staff and students as well as updating technologists/students of any changes in procedures/methodologies.
• Excellent computer skills including proficiency with MS office (Word, Excel) and Meditech System.
• Ability to enhance image quality standards
• Experience in maintaining records and monitoring quality control systems
• Experience in assisting in the development of new imaging protocols
• Excellent leadership, interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to interact with Technologists, Nursing and Medical staff
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment
• Excellent attendance and discipline free record required
