We are currently looking for Temporary Full-Time Graduate Nursing Student Extern to be a part of the Maternal and Child program.
The Graduate Nursing Students Extern role is an unregulated healthcare worker providing direct personal support to HRH patients. Graduate Nursing Student Externs will be responsible for the provision and documentation of basic care for patients, and shall work under the supervision of regulated healthcare providers in accordance to department policies and procedures. They shall not perform or be delegated any regulated acts (medication administration, vital signs, assessments, etc.).
Employees hired into this position will be required to obtain their Nursing registration within the time frame outlined in provincial specific regulations.

Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Primary Nurse or a regulated healthcare professional:
- Responsible for the provision of basic care (activities of daily living such as bathing, toileting, feeding, etc.) needs for up to 10 patients each.
- Responsible for the documentation of activities of daily living (ADLs), such as intake and output, and relevant communication for patients in which they have provided care for.
- Participates in patient assessments
- Assists regulated health professionals in routine monitoring (hourly rounding) of assigned patients
- Receives report from assigned patients’ Primary Nurse, including any patient specific behaviours or issues to observe and report on.
- Identifies and communicates with the inter-professional healthcare team members on patient issues for ongoing patient assignments as necessary, immediately report any clinical concerns to their direct supervisor.
- Routinely meets with regulated health professional and / or inter-professional healthcare team as necessary to discuss patient status, safety issues and relevant patient or family information
- Collaborates to develop and refine competency in understanding the development and management of patient care planning in preparation for transitioning into temporary registered position.
- Participates in all required staff meetings as scheduled
- Assists unit Clinical Practice Leader in the collection and identification of practice needs / gaps to develop educational strategies, plans or content, in consultation with the unit leadership team and clinical staff
- Assists unit Clinical Practice Leader in the development and evaluation of formal and informal educational programs and materials
- Supports and facilitates activities related to Best Practice Spotlight Organization in collaboration with unit CPL, manager and BPSO coordinator.
Qualifications:
- Nursing student in completion of their final year of study in a College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) approved Baccalaureate Nursing (BScN or BN) program and Practical Nursing (PN) program, prior to obtaining CNO registration
- Current CPR Certification
- Ability to provide basic assistive care with frequent supervision and ongoing mentoring from a Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse
- Ability in assessing difficult situations and using good judgement
- Ability to accurately and effectively communicate with the inter-professional healthcare team members
- Excellent customer service skills; strong interpersonal and communication skills, ability to use good judgment in assessing difficult situations
- Must be a team player (works well with others)
- Demonstrates understanding of the use of technology

Position Responsibilities:
- Process internal/external referral requests on our Mental Health and Addictions centralized intake desk
- Responsible for customer service including answering telephone inquiries from internal stakeholders, patients and from the community
- Work collaboratively with all Outpatient MH and Addictions program clinicians and psychiatrists to distribute/assign/book referrals and schedule patient appointments
- Updates all referral information within our information systems and track relevant statistical information as required
- Assist with patient registration and discharge, maintenance of patient records, order entry etc.
- Provide clerical support for program duties such as, room bookings, development of agenda/minutes for meetings, stocking/ordering of supplies, etc.

Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Completion of a Community College Medical Secretary Diploma an asset.

- Completes a psycho-social assessment and provides therapies with children/youth and families using a variety of psychotherapeutic modalities that are short term (supportive, crisis counselling and brief solution-focused) to promote crisis stabilization and a return to an optimum level of functioning.
- Using a holistic approach provides psycho-education and consultation services to patients and their families to promote an optimal level of functioning.
- Acts as resource of discipline-specific expertise to other members of the treatment team including ED/EPU.

Qualifications:

Responsibilities:
- In accordance with the principles of infection control, decontamination, sterilization, and aseptic techniques, and established policies, procedures, and safety standards:
- Inspection, testing, setting up and maintaining all hardware and trays needed by the Operating Room and or other departments in the hospital
- Performs routine preventive maintenance on medical devices, equipment, and supplies. Identifies damaged or malfunctioning medical devices, equipment, and supplies. Reports, records, initiates, and follows up on repairs to faulty medical devices, equipment, and supplies as required
- Receives, sorts, disassembles, tests, cleans and high level disinfects endoscopy
- Assembly based on computerized instrument tracking system and prints labels to adhere to tray, peel pouch and containers
- Receives, fills, and delivers urgent and routine requests for medical devices, supplies, and equipment for the OR and/or other patient areas
- Decontamination and sterilization of instruments, hardware and case cart picking may be required

Qualifications:
- Grade 12 or equivalent required
- Completion of Medical Device Reprocessing Certificate from a Canadian Accredited Community College.
- Current registration by the Medical Device Reprocessing Association of Ontario (MDRAO)
- Two years recent experience including but not limited to: reprocessing, decontamination, sterilization, inspection, testing, setting up, maintaining, transporting distribution and collection of trays, case carts, medical instruments, equipment, and hardware required
- Good working knowledge of medical supplies, instruments, hardware, and sterilization equipment required

Responsibilities:
- In accordance with the principles of infection control, decontamination , sterilization, and aseptic techniques, and established policies, procedures, and safety standards:
- Inspection, testing, setting up and maintaining all hardware and or trays needed by the Clinics and or departments in the hospital
- Performs routine preventive maintenance on medical devices, equipment, and supplies. Identifies damaged or malfunctioning medical devices, equipment, and supplies. Reports, records, initiates, and follows up on repairs to faulty medical devices, equipment, and supplies as required
- Receives, sorts, dissembles, cleans, decontamination, assembly and sterilize medical devices o Decontamination and sterilization of hardware and case cart picking
- Loads and operates sterilizing equipment. Monitors sterilizing equipment operation and performs standard quality assurance tests on effectiveness of the sterilization process in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications and stores, rotates medical devices
- Assembly and scanning based on computerized instrument tracking system and prints labels to adhere to tray, peel pouch and containers
- Receives, fills, and delivers urgent and routine requests for medical devices, supplies, and equipment for the OR and/or other patient areas
- Monitors and maintains established levels of sterile and non sterile supplies used throughout the Hospital and department in accordance with pre-determined quantities and needs by performing duties such as performing inventory counts, requisitioning of supplies and equipment, reporting and recording shortages, problems and complaints related to medical devices, supplies and equipment
- Adheres to departmental and Hospital policy and procedures
- Performs routine cleaning/sanitation of work stations/areas, storage areas, processing machines, and equipment
- Performs related clerical duties such as maintaining records, answering telephones, filing, data entry, and information retrieval from computer
- Assists with orientation and training of new staff and students
- Prints pick lists using a computerized system. Picks and distributes medical devices sets, equipment, and supplies for medical and/or surgical procedures for various patient care procedures/areas
- Replenishes procedure and specialty supply carts for various patient care Areas on a regularly scheduled basis in accordance with established policies and procedures
- Performs and records environmental safety monitoring activities
- Transporting medical/surgical equipment, case carts etc.
- Distribution and collection of supplies, instruments, trays, etc. from the entire hospital and reprocessing in the appropriate way may be required
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 or equivalent required
- Completion of Medical Device Reprocessing Certificate from a Canadian Accredited Community College.
- Current registration by the Medical Device Reprocessing Association of Ontario (MDRAO)
- Two years recent experience including but not limited to: reprocessing, decontamination, sterilization, inspection, testing, setting up, maintaining, transporting distribution and collection of trays, case carts, medical instruments, equipment, and hardware required
- Good working knowledge of medical supplies, instruments, hardware, and sterilization equipment required
- Knowledge of surgical and medical terminology
- Good command of the English Language (both verbal and written) required
- Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision
- Ability to operate, with training, machinery, i.e. sterilizers

- Integrates best practice guidelines and evidence-based research into clinical practice related to Seniors Care

Humber River Health (HRH) is one of Canada’s largest acute care hospitals, fully digital, and serving a diverse catchment area of more than 850,000 people in the northwest Greater Toronto Area (GTA). HRH operates 722 acute inpatient beds with 3,400 staff, approximately 700 physicians, and over 1,000 volunteers. HRH currently includes the Wilson site, a 656-bed full service acute care facility that opened in 2015, and the Finch and Church sites, known as the "Reactivation Care Centres (RCC)". Department and Program Overview
Humber River Health has a thriving Maternal and Child Program with a full-service obstetrics program servicing about 4300 deliveries annually, a state-of-the-art Level 2C NICU, inpatient Pediatric Program, Outpatient Clinics for Obstetrics and Pediatrics as well as a Pediatric Surgical Daycare. The interprofessional team includes Obstetrician, Midwife, Neonatologist, Pediatrician, Nursing, Lactation Consultant, Social Work, Occupational Therapist, Dietician, Child Life Specialist, Nurse Practitioner, Respiratory Therapy and administrative expertise.
The Department of Pediatrics at HRH as a team of more than 20 pediatricians/neonatologists who provide high quality specialty integrated in patient and outpatient care. Our inpatient services are offered in our Level 2C NICU with 16 inpatient beds and our 12-bed pediatric unit. Our Pediatric Outpatient Area offer a variety of general pediatric consultations and subspecialty services through the following clinics: Allergy, Asthma, Audiology, Bilirubin, Cardiology, Feeding, GI, Neonatal Follow-up, Neurology, Nutrition, Occupational Therapy and Orthopedic.

Right now we are looking for a Program Assistant to work with our Professional Practice, Quality & Patient Safety Program
Reporting Relationship: Sr. Director, Professional Practice, Quality & Patient Safety
Position Responsibilities:
- Coordinates the operational and business matters of the Program
- Identifies, coordinate, analyze and communicate key Program matters and critical issues in a timely manner and in accordance with hospital established processes
- Prioritizes action items requiring Director’s attention through scheduled briefings with the Director and preparation of reports of priority projects.
- Develops processes for issues management to ensure timely response to incoming requests/issues from internal and external stakeholders
- Provides clear direction and oversight to administrative support within the Program portfolio
- Redirects communication within the hospital when receiving information as the point person for the Program
- Provides strategic support to advance the priorities of the Program portfolio
- Establishes meaningful relationships with peers, colleagues, and multiple internal and external stakeholders that will advance the Program portfolio
- Disseminates information identified as critical for the advancement of policy formation, process development and enhancement of public communications within the Surgical Program portfolio, across portfolios, and between the Surgical Program portfolio and external partners (i.e. LHIN/MOHLTC)
- Ensures timely feedback on behalf of the Sr Director whenever necessary
Qualifications:
- 3 years of recent experience providing senior administrative support in a health care setting
- Graduate of a recognized post-secondary education in Business Administration, or related field, preferred
- Has extensive knowledge of hospital processes, as well as legislation, policies, and procedures that affect hospitals
- Utilizes high level of judgment and discretion when dealing with confidential or sensitive matters
- Has a high degree of attention to detail to ensure accuracy in deliverables
- Creative, resourceful and flexible
- Excellent communication, time management, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrates commitment to ongoing learning
- Works independently and in a team environment
- Adapts to changing priorities and manage change involving multiple stakeholders effectively
- Maintains a positive attitude and strong work ethic while managing competing demands
- Completes a multitude of tasks simultaneously within targeted timelines in an organized and efficient manner
- Demonstrated regular, punctual attendance
- Demonstrated commitment to patient safety and the provision of the best possible patient care
- Demonstrates experience in producing printed/electronic publications and other departmental communication

- Has a typing speed of 60 WPM
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Windows, MS Project, Internet and Outlook
- Intermediate MS Access knowledge an asset
- Excellent attendance and discipline free record required.
