We are currently looking for Temporary Casual Student Nurse Externs to be a part of our medicine and surgical programs.
Reporting Relationship: Manager, Floor 12 East and West
Position Responsibilities:
The Student Nurse Extern role is an unregulated healthcare worker providing direct personal support to HRH patients. Student Nurse Externs will be responsible for the provision of basic care (activities of daily living such as bathing, toileting, feeding, etc.) needs for up to 10 patients each. The Student Nurse Extern may work under the supervision of both Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses in accordance to department policies and procedures. The Student Nurse Extern will also be responsible for the documentation of activities of daily living (ADLs), such as intake and output, and relevant communication for patients in which they have provided care for. The Student Nurse Extern will not perform or be delegated any regulated acts (medication administration, vital signs, assessments, etc.). The Student Nurse Extern will immediately report any clinical concerns to their direct supervisor.
Qualifications:
- The successful candidate must be currently enrolled years 2-4 of their nursing program of studies
- Current CPR certification required

- Ability to accurately and effectively communicate with the inter-professional healthcare team members

- Advocate for use of best practices for clinical staff.

Requirements:
- Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario

- Current BCLS/CPR certification required
- Current Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification, or obtained within 6 months of hire
- Completed Canadian Nursing Association Certificate in Psychiatric Nursing, (or equivalent), or willingness to complete within 2 years of hire preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Ontario Mental Health Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act, Health Care Consent Act

Responsibilities
- Provide support to the Manager of MDRD with day-to-day co-ordination of activities, tasks, departmental updates, staff meetings and workload in the reprocessing department across all sites
- Assist Manager of MDRD in supervising reprocessing in compliance with safety and materials handling requirements (OH&S, WHIMIS and SDS); supervises safety issues and staff injuries in collaboration with HR and OH&S departments.
- Assist in maintaining and fostering an environment that is sensitive to the diversity of internal and external communities

- preparing reports of inventory usage with recommendations for improvements to cost and supply level balances (e.g. review preference cards, tray contents, recommend case cart changes, eliminations, or redistribution of trays/instruments based on usage results)
- monitoring and analyzing instrument inventories to ensure timely, accurate reprocessing, in consideration of delivery outpatient clinic carts, reordering of supplies for reprocessing,
- analyzing product data on the supply carts to determine supply usage, turnover rates, and appropriate product mix for each supply cart and vendor
- Liaise/Coordinate –
- with clinical and other departments to meet supply usage and quotas
- with the clinical teams for immediate responses to product recalls, communicate and document recall processes
- Monitor, correct and optimize inventory tray levels in clinical areas

- with the development and updating of job descriptions and policies and procedures

- Assist leadership –

- with established KPIs to evaluate MDRD operations from the perspective of quality, risk, and service excellence and plan activities to support and strengthen existing practice

- Assist with monitoring the third-party vendor contracts for consumables and maintenance, software and systems in accordance with the contract terms, conditions, key performance indicators, vendor performance management, etc.
- Escalate any of the vendors’ non-compliance to the third-party contracts to Procurement and Logistics
Requirements:
- Business Administration Diploma required
- Graduate of a recognized MDR program required
- CSA Group certification preferred
- Certified Medical Device Reprocessing Technician (CMDRT) required
- Member of Medical Device Reprocessing Association of Ontario (MDRAO) required
- 3 years of Recent experience in MDR, and management and leadership required
- 3 years Experience in a computerized healthcare environment preferred
- MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) required

Right now we are looking for a Registered Nurse to work with our Haemodialysis Unit, Nephrology Program.
Position Responsibilities:
- All aspects of care for patients receiving hemodialysis in the dialysis unit, long-term care unit, or congregate facilities partnered with HRH
- Provision of acute hemodialysis treatment on inpatient units, ICU, ER, and LTC partners
- Participation in on call rotation for provision of acute hemodialysis treatment
- Providing patient education and follow-up to episodic concerns raised during the dialysis treatment
- Providing comprehensive care to assigned patient that includes but not limited to ensuring plan of care is developed in collaboration with multidisciplinary team, updated and communicated with team in a timely manner
Qualifications:
- Current RN registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario

Responsibilities:
- Develop, evaluate, and maintain Humber River Health's Wound & Skin Program
- Advocate for use of best practices for clinical staff.
- Guide clinical staff in the interpretation and implementation of professional and practice standards.
- Monitor and evaluate staff and program compliance with professional best practices and standards to identify and resolve issues with the delivery of quality, safe patient care and compliance with professional standards; refer complex issues to Director for resolution; adjust practice changes as they occur to bring staff to new standard.
- Develop reports of staff disciplinary actions for submission to regulatory health professional colleges and professional associations in collaboration with Manager and Director.
- Develop project plans, requirements, testing and implementation plans, resources and interdependencies, monitor implementation.
- Collect data on practice needs (e.g. programs, care interventions, policies, standards in clinical area) to identify gaps in nursing practices, competencies, and service quality; develop educational strategies, plans, and content (e.g. policies, processes, technologies) in consultation with unit leadership team and clinical staff; and evaluate post-training outcomes.
- Conduct impact analysis to determine training and education activity and program interdependencies (e.g. technical Meditech systems use, orientation, accreditation, hand hygiene, new or updated care and treatment standards) and keep staff updated with new practices, skills, and certifications in assigned clinical areas.
- Coach/mentor clinical staff; train new staff during orientation and monitor against best practice standards; recommend disciplinary actions for staff noncompliance with professional and operational requirements and standards to Director and monitor outcomes.

Requirements:
- Master’s Degree in Nursing or MSc in Nursing or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

- A minimum (5) five years of relevant nursing experience in acute care required.

Overview
The Manager, Employee and Labour Relations is a strategic individual who is solution-oriented, reliable, has a positive attitude and engaging demeanor who thrives in a fast-paced, deadline–driven, multi-tasking environment and consistently supports and communicates the Mission, Vision and Values of Humber River Health.
The Manager, Employee and Labour Relations provides leadership and consultation to management in addressing complex employee and labour relations issues, including collective agreement interpretation, application of employment legislation & Hospital policies, conflict resolution, investigations, discipline, restructuring, accommodation issues, performance management, attendance support programs, management of harassment and discrimination complaints, employee recognition and other related HR issues.
The Manager, Employee and Labour Relations engages in a collaborative union-management relationship and collective bargaining process. This includes co-ordinating and acting as a key participant in the collective bargaining process, advising management and working with union officials on the interpretation and application of the collective agreement, and managing the grievance process.
Responsibilities
- Actively initiates alternative dispute resolution (ADR) principles related to employee conflict management.
- Works directly with legal council on formal dispute resolution for grievance, arbitration and Human Rights Tribunal meetings.
- Participates in key strategic and operational discussions and decisions on human resources issues, priorities, systems, processes, performance indicators, human resources and budgets.
- Manages the development and updating of Labour Relations policies and ensures a common understanding and interpretation of policies and of the collective agreement. The manager exercises managerial responsibility of their work unit.
- Acts as an integral member of HRH negotiation team, lead in preparing negotiation strategies and prepare and review drafts of collective agreement language. Ensure that negotiations are properly documented.
- Educates management on negotiated contract changes and assist with implementation where required.
- Coordinates the various Labour-Management Committee (s), including preparation of the agenda on behalf of management and documentation of discussions. Participate as a member of the Committee. Actively contribute to the establishment of a positive relationship with the union.
- Responsible for guiding and steering the complaint, grievances and arbitration processes including timely responses at each stage.
- In complex cases, provide expert advice to the Labour Relations and Occupational Health and Safety management on the interpretation of the collective agreement and application of relevant jurisprudence.
- Manages, with the support of the Labour Relations and Occupational Health and Safety Specialist, termination cases and complex employee relations cases by supporting the HR Business Solutions team and managers in building the case, determining corrective measures, supporting management in delivering the decision to the employee and liaising with union representatives.
- Conducts and provide oversight for employer investigations.
- Participates as a member of the Human Resources management team in the development of the Division’s policies, guidelines, standards, and strategies to guide senior management at HRH in conducting human resources activities.
- Works with the Director Employee and Labour Relations to develop objectives, set priorities, and plans for the Division and contributes to corporate HR monitoring and reporting.
- Provides HR leadership with regards to strategy, policy, design, development, implementation and continuous improvement of the areas related to the mandate of the work unit, ensuring that the frameworks, policies, standard operating procedures (SOP), and practices align with and support the achievement of HRH’s strategic objectives and people plans including HR’s implementation plan.
- Provides strategic advice to senior management on various HR management disciplines related to the mandate of the work unit.
- in partnership with OHSW, this role will provide guidance for the hospital’s disability and long-term sick leaves program, workplace incidents and accommodation program
- Responsible for the execution of the HR People Plan, which may include leading certain related work unit projects under this plan.
- Manage the Labour Relations staff and HRPB, develop objectives and annual work plans to ensure that the incumbents work towards shared objectives, plan and assign work and priorities, monitor progress as well as manage hiring, orientation, professional development and manage performance and address employee relations issues.

- Minimum of 3 years’ human resources management experience in a unionized environment (preferably in healthcare), supporting leaders in addressing complex employee and labour relations issues, including collective agreement interpretation, application of employment legislation & Hospital policies, conflict resolution, investigations, discipline, restructuring, accommodation issues, performance management, management of harassment and discrimination complaints, employee recognition and other related HR issues
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline. Masters degree preferred
- CHRP/CHRL designation required
- Labour management experience required
- Experience in leading local collective bargaining and negotiation preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of conflict resolution theory and practice
- Demonstrated ability to build, foster and maintain constructive relationships with clients and union partners
- Demonstrated experience in drafting and negotiation settlements in a complex union environment with multiple unions.
- Expert knowledge of relevant Ontario employment legislation
- Ability to function independently and as a member of a team dealing with multiple priorities in a complex environment
- Excellent presentation skills the ability to facilitate in-house training
- Sound knowledge and Customer service orientation and sensitivity to clients needs
- Working knowledge of MS Office software programs such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

We are looking for an SPD Aide to support our Sterile Processing Department
Hiring Rate Range: $24.723 - $25.212
Shift: Must be available for all rotating shifts (days, evenings, nights) on weekdays, weekends and statutory holidays.

Responsibilities:
- In accordance with the principles of infection control, decontamination , sterilization, and aseptic techniques, and established policies, procedures, and safety standards:
- Inspection, testing, setting up and maintaining all hardware and or trays needed by the Clinics and or departments in the hospital
- Performs routine preventive maintenance on medical devices, equipment, and supplies. Identifies damaged or malfunctioning medical devices, equipment, and supplies. Reports, records, initiates, and follows up on repairs to faulty medical devices, equipment, and supplies as required
- Receives, sorts, dissembles, cleans, decontamination, assembly and sterilize medical devices o Decontamination and sterilization of hardware and case cart picking
- Loads and operates sterilizing equipment. Monitors sterilizing equipment operation and performs standard quality assurance tests on effectiveness of the sterilization process in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications and stores, rotates medical devices
- Assembly and scanning based on computerized instrument tracking system and prints labels to adhere to tray, peel pouch and containers
- Receives, fills, and delivers urgent and routine requests for medical devices, supplies, and equipment for the OR and/or other patient areas
- Monitors and maintains established levels of sterile and non sterile supplies used throughout the Hospital and department in accordance with pre-determined quantities and needs by performing duties such as performing inventory counts, requisitioning of supplies and equipment, reporting and recording shortages, problems and complaints related to medical devices, supplies and equipment
- Adheres to departmental and Hospital policy and procedures
- Performs routine cleaning/sanitation of work stations/areas, storage areas, processing machines, and equipment
- Performs related clerical duties such as maintaining records, answering telephones, filing, data entry, and information retrieval from computer
- Assists with orientation and training of new staff and students
- Prints pick lists using a computerized system. Picks and distributes medical devices sets, equipment, and supplies for medical and/or surgical procedures for various patient care procedures/areas
- Replenishes procedure and specialty supply carts for various patient care Areas on a regularly scheduled basis in accordance with established policies and procedures
- Performs and records environmental safety monitoring activities
- Transporting medical/surgical equipment, case carts etc.
- Distribution and collection of supplies, instruments, trays, etc. from the entire hospital and reprocessing in the appropriate way may be required
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Grade 12 or equivalent required
- Completion of Medical Device Reprocessing Certificate from a Canadian Accredited Community College.
- Current registration by the Medical Device Reprocessing Association of Ontario (MDRAO)
- Two years recent experience including but not limited to: reprocessing, decontamination, sterilization, inspection, testing, setting up, maintaining, transporting distribution and collection of trays, case carts, medical instruments, equipment, and hardware required
- Good working knowledge of medical supplies, instruments, hardware, and sterilization equipment required
- Knowledge of surgical and medical terminology
- Good command of the English Language (both verbal and written) required
- Demonstrated ability to follow instructions and work with minimal supervision
- Ability to operate, with training, machinery, i.e. sterilizers
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the position in order to perform the essential duties of the job which requires lifting/pushing (up to 25 lbs) and standing (up to 7.5 hours) for extended periods of time
- Must be able to work with organic and inorganic residues such as blood and other bodily fluids and secretions seen on medical devices
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills, and the ability to work alone or as a part a team
- Excellent attendance and discipline free record required
